Sacramento to Lake Tahoe (day 1-2)

Filed under: Travel, All — Gina @ 4:01 pm

I had this little trip to Sacramento, Reno and Lake Tahoe for five days. Orginally I was going alone, then my friend Sheron came to join me in the first afternoon to travaled together for this trip.
Sacramento is a clean and quite city, very organized, also a little bit of boring. It is just about two hours away from San Francisco, but the weather was totally different, it is HOT!

Though we enjoyed walking under the sunshine at Old Sacramento and along Sacramento River, sometime we would just snicked into some little shops to cool down a little bit. Taylor’s art & soul was one of them, it is a small gallery-like shop shows a big verity of art and craft works.
We had our lunch at Joe’s Crab Shack. The Margarita smoothy was GREAT!

This is California State Capitol, it looked a lot like the White House didn’t it?

We stayed at HI-Sacramento for the night, I could say this hostel is the best one I’d ever stayed!

The next day morning, we had our breakfast at Crepe Cafe on K St., since there were nothing too much to see, we decided to go to Reno earlier then it was schduled.
Reno is a gambling town in north Nevada, about three hours away from Sacramento with Truckee River flows through it. We hopped on the local free bus to get around the town and finally decided to have our dinner at Harrah’s. The food was fantastic there, very good quality and CHEAP, not only at Harrh’s, every single casino has its own specials. I had a little nap on a rock beside the river after lunch, nice and peaceful. If the accommodation can be cheaper in Reno, I would of staying there for one night or so.

There’s no grayhound bus route to Lake Tahoe, so we took a shuttle bySouth Tahoe Express. It was a nice drive, tons of star sparkling on the sky, very impressive! When we finally arrived South Lake Tahoe, it was close to 10pm. Because the shuttle does not go to where we were going to stay, the driver dropped us off at Harveys and told us to take a taxi. As (sort of) a backpacker, I didn’t really want to do it. Then we got lost…having no idea where we are in the dark, I finally decided to ask for help. We went in a small motel called Cedar Inn…. I must say it is such a small world, because while the owner, Elly, was trying to call a cab for us, I heard the redio station they were listening is from Taiwan! Oh, yes, Elly and her family are from Taiwan! Pretty soon we become friends and actually end up they drove us to the place where we suspose to stay! It’s kismet!
The place we stayed is called Doug’s Mellow Mountain Retreat, which is actually a house. Doug is a friendly guy, the first imprission I got from him was: Tipsy, but he is cool. We had a good stay there, though the room was kinda small, but got everything we were looking for. The atmosphere is very cozy and excetally like its name, Mellow.
